Jonathan signs 2013 budget

Blueprint | Feb. 27, 2013

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday (Feb. 26) signed the 2013 Appropriation Bill, putting an end to the seeming battle of supremacy between the executive and the legislature arms of government.

Assenting to the budget proposals at the State House in Abuja, Jonathan assured Nigerians that the delay, owing to wide consultations, have been in the best interest of the country and in pursuit of mutual cooperation between the arms of government.

He said the present administration remains fully committed to the positive transformation of the country and effective and efficient service delivery for the benefit of the citizens.

The president directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the federal government to work very hard to ensure that all the services, projects and programmes contained in the budget are successfully delivered on schedule in spite of the slight delay in its enactment.

Presidential spokesperson, Dr. Reuben Abati, said in a statement that the understanding reached was that the observations of the executive arm of government about the Appropriation Bill as passed by the National Assembly would be further considered by the National Assembly through legislative action in order to ensure effective and smooth implementation of the 2013 Appropriation Act in all aspects.
