2019 Polls: Northern PDP Leaders Insist Party’s Ticket Belongs To North

Northern Elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday maintained that the zoning arrangement, which allotted the presidency to the North as approved by the party’s national convention still stands. According to the elders, while the North will produce the president, the Southern zone is to produce the national chairman of the party.

The party leaders who rose from a meeting in Abuja rebuked Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, for joining the presidential race under the platform of the party in disregard to the zoning formula of the party, which zoned the ticket to the North.

Kachikwu got contracts for nine firms – NNPC

The NNPC has stated that the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu got oil contracts for nine firms. The national oil company said Dr. Kachikwu made an input into the shortlisting of 40 off-takers for the Crude Term Contracts by recommending seven companies, which were engaged.

The NNPC faulted the Minister’s claim that he was not consulted on $10billion Crude Term Contracts. Also, the minister was said to have nominated two companies for the alleged Direct Sales, Direct Purchase (DSDP) transactions, which Dr. Kachikwu claimed were worth $5billion. The corporation said while the Minister was its GMD, he sent a memo to the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) seeking clarification on the status of the NNPC Tenders Board.

The war of integrity between Dr. Kachikwu and Dr. Baru got more intense on Wednesday. This is despite the hugging between both men, which some pundits say, has calmed nerves. Nigerians have not heard the last of this ‘leaked memo’ written by Dr. Kachikwu about Dr. Baru to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Lawyer Asks Court to Stop Senate from Inviting Baru

An Abuja-based lawyer has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to restrain the Senate from inviting the GMD of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, over the allegations contained in a leaked memo written to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

In the suit Number FHC/ABJ/CS/953/17, the plaintiff, Johnmary Chukwukasi Jideobi also asked the court to set aside the October 4, 2017 proceedings of the Senate on the ground that the Senate’s planned investigation is based on the contents of an unconfirmed document of doubtful origin. The defendants in the suit include: the NNPC; the GMD of NNPC; the Senate President and the Senate.

The endorsement of Obaze’s candidature by the elder statesman has laid to rest speculations in the media of the endorsement of the second term bid of the incumbent governor, Chief Willie Obiano.

Addressing PDP faithful in his family house at Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state, Ekwueme said  time had come to unseat the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to pave way for a PDP government in the state.

The Obaze rally is scheduled for October 16 at the Holy Trinity Ground in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State. A source from the Anambra State PDP caretaker committee led by Prof. ABC Nwosu, disclosed the itinerary of the party to the press in Awka, the state capital. The immediate-past governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi, who fell out with Gov. Willie Obano has been working to unseat Obiano his ex-political protégé. The PDP in the state had been plagued by internal power tussles, court cases and the APGA resurgence with the emergence of the late Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu who identified with APGA before his death.

Mrs. Jonathan ‘used mum’s account to launder N2.1b’ – EFCC

Former First Lady Patience Jonathan used her mother’s company to launder about N2.114b, according to the EFCC. Also, uncovered is how some domestic aides of the former First Lady remitted about N5.7billion into the accounts of three firms linked to Mrs. Jonathan.
