The 18-year old becomes the emir’s fourth wife.

Kwara APC pledges loyalty to Oyegun

APC . Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. Nattional Chairman APC

The Kwara Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has pledged its loyalty to the party’s national chairman Chief John Odigie Oyegun (photo), and declared support for his statement banning unauthorised persons from speaking for the party.

In a statement by the Kwara APC, the spokesperson, Sulyman Buhari, said it not only stands “by the Chief Oyegun-led NWC on this directive but also pledge our loyalty to it in its bid to redirect the party on the path of sanity and discipline.”

Premium Times reports that Chief Oyegun had said in a statement on Friday that he was aware some “unauthorized persons have recently been issuing statements on behalf of the party”. He described such as “totally wrong and unacceptable as only the National Chairman and the National Publicity Secretary can speak for the party on national issues”.

The Chairman’s statement is believed to have been made in relation to a statement by the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank, who released a statement on the party’s controversial Bayelsa Primary accusing the disputed winner, Timipre Sylva, of manipulating the process.

Mr. Frank condemned “a situation where all other aspirants walked out of the venue and a particular aspirant put a member of the primary election committee under duress to declare him winner, while the chairman and secretary of the committee were not present.”

Although Mr. Oyegun has since announced the cancellation of the Bayelsa primaries, Mr. Sylva has vowed to reject any rescheduled primary.

However, on Sunday, the Kwara APC, which is loyal to the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki, linked Mr. Oyegun’s statement to the crisis surrounding the Senate President. It’ spokesperson said he was not sure the chairman’s warn would hinder party members who had “severally maligned” Mr. Saraki in relation to the senate crisis.

PT reported that Mr. Buhari mentioned Joe Igbokwe, the Lagos APC spokesperson, as one of those who had attacked Mr. Saraki in the media in the past.

Labour unions under the aegis of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), have asked the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to vacate his office pending the determination of his case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

The workers contend that it is morally right for Dr. Saraki to vacate his office in deference and respect for his office as the Senate President and no. 3 citizen of Nigeria, to defend himself.

The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) is prosecuting Dr. Saraki for alleged false declaration of assets at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

MASSOB: Secession not in Igbo’s interest, Ohanaeze

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio- cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has told the leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) that seceding from Nigeria, as being agitated by the group, would not be in the interest of the Igbo.

The National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro stated this on Saturday during a press conference in Umuahia, Abia State, to unveil plans for this year’s Igbo Youths Day slated for Monday in Umuahia.

According to him, it is better for Ndigbo to remain in Nigeria and struggle for their fair share of the ‘national cake’ than fight for self-determination with its attendant consequences.

He said, “ It is better we remain in Nigeria and fight for our rights than secede. We have been patient enough and in 2019, it will be our turn to produce a Nigerian President. It will take a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction to heal the wounds of Biafra.”

He called on the Federal Government to unconditionally release all members of MASSOB and other Biafran activists detained in various prisons across the country.

Army Denies Accusing Borno Elders of Sponsoring Boko Haram

Nigeria army . Colonel Sani Usman. Acting Director, Army Public Relations

The Nigerian Army has denied accusing Borno elders of sponsoring the Boko Haram Jihadists in the Northeast of Nigeria. The army clarified their position to be that some indigenes of the state are planning to prolong the insurgency in the Northeast.

The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, who made this clarification yesterday, disclosed that they did not refer to the elders in their statement.

Usman said that “the attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to observations and concerns by well meaning Nigerians especially the Borno Elders Leaders of Thought (BELT) about the misinterpretation of the warning.”

Therefore, he added, it becomes necessary to clarify to the  effect that the statement released yesterday does not refer to the  leaders of BELT or majority of the good people and law abiding prominent citizens of Borno State. He however noted that the warning was to inform a specific group of people whose activities are inimmical to our collective quest for peace as enumerated in the release.

At this point, the DAPR said, it is important to observe that what is required at this crucial period is for everyone to rally round the Federal Government to bring to a speedy end the wanton destruction of lives and properties by the  Boko Haram insurgency.

Usman said that “the Borno Elders and Leaders of Thought cannot hold any clandestine meetings and therefore as a responsible organisation the Nigerian Army holds them in high esteem.

“We however wish to reiterate unequivocally that the Nigerian Army has credible information that certain individuals and groups are losing out of the successes being achieved and therefore want to discredit the renewed fight against Boko Haram. We would not tolerate nor allow them to actualise their nefarious intents,” he assured.
