Bomb blast hits Abuja

BREAKING NEWS | Abuja, Nigeria

A bomb has exploded in Abuja, the federal capital of Nigeria late afternoon today killing a yet to be known number of people and injuring many (photos below).

The bomb targeted the center of the federal capital city (FCC) area of Wuse 2 in the Abuja  metropolis. The bomb exploded in a busy shopping mall area with traders, shop owners and shoppers milling around, targeting the Emab and Barnex plazas in Wuse 2. A mosque is in front of the Emab plaza but was untouched in the blast.

Witnesses report seeing scores of dead bodies loaded into trucks and driven off by security and fire service personnel. Also, the wounded were moved into other vehicles, including ambulances to hospitals in the Abuja metropolitan area.

Abuja bomb blast. Wuse 2 01.Abuja bomb blast. Wuse 2 02Meanwhile, security operatives have cordoned off ground zero of the blast, causing traffic jams and heavy vehicular movement away from the shopping malls.

As fears of a second blast pervaded, security personnel dispersed anxious crowds and cordoned off the area to avoid mayhem if a second blast occurs.
